Edward William, son of Alfred and Martha Chapman, was born in Bonaparte, Iowa, August 24th, 1867, and departed this life September 26, 1919, at the age of 52 years, 1 month and 2 days; he was married May 10th 1899, to Miss Coza B. Ferguson of Bloomfield, Iowa. To this union were born two children, Dorothy and Deo.
The deceased spent his entire live in Bonaparte, with the exception of a few years, when he lived in Coffeeville, Kansas, Maysville, Missouri, and St. Louis, Missouri.
He had twelve brothers and sisters, three of whom died in early life; Anna and George also having preceded him to the great beyond. Besides a wife and two children, he leaves to mourn their loss, five sisters and two brothers: -- Kate Saddler of Sacramento, Calif., Una L. and Alfred of Hollywood, Calif., Mrs. Emma Packer of Bonaparte, Martha M Scoville of Seattle, Washington; and Thomas P. of St. Louis, Missouri, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon September 28, at the house, Rev. J.S. Coppoc preaching the sermon. The remains were laid to rest in the Bonaparte cemetery with the Masonic burial ritual.
