GEORGE ESTLE ROBY

George Estle Roby, son of Singleton and Katherine Roby, was born in Van Buren county two miles north of Milton December 7th, 1852 and passed away Oct. 18, 1925 at the age of 72 years ten months and 11 days. He was the youngest of a family of twelve children all of whom preceded him in death, except one sister, Mrs. Sarah Francy of Milton, Iowa. On Nov. 21, 1888 he was united in marriage to Emma Salladay Moore. To this union was born two children Mrs. Esther Hilpert of Milton, Iowa and Miss Faye Roby of Troy. He resided on a farm one mile south of Troy until about 22 years ago when he moved to Troy where he engaged in the store business until one year ago when he was compelled to sell the store on account of failing health. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and encampment Lodge. He was a loving husband, a kind father and a good neighbor. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, two daughters, one son-in-law, Frank Hilpert, two grandchildren, Roby and Fern Hilpert, one sister, and other relatives and a host of friends. Mr. Roby was a very successful and capable business man. He was most accommodating and congenial with his customer friends and neighbors. He was very much interested in the progress of his home tow, Troy, and only a few years ago he moved his place of business to larger and more commodious building. The funeral service was held in the Troy M. E. church on Tuesday afternoon. The commodious church was filled to capacity with neighbors and friends from far and near. Mr. Geo. Steele of Centerville was present, also a number of other relatives and friends from Bloomfield and Milton, and other nearby towns. In honor and respect the Troy high school was closed at noon, Miss Faye Roby being one of the teachers. A large delegation of Odd Fellows were present and occupied a large section of the church and marched in a body to the cemetery. A quartette rendered three beautiful and touching selections. The services were conducted by Rev. S. P. Trostle, former pastor at Troy and a friend of the deceased.
