L. W. OLNEY, CIVIL WAR VET, IS DEAD

Louis Wesley Olney, 85 years old, died Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. W. Nye, near Dudley. Mr. Olney was a Civil war veteran, a member of the 5th Iowa regiment. He was also a member of Cloutman post, G.A.R.

He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Nye, brother, N. C. Olney of Pasadena, Calif., and one sister, Mrs. A. R. Harris of Lampoc, Colo.

The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Columbia church with the Rev. G. W. Barber of Eldon in charge. Burial will be in Columbia cemetery.

LEWIS W. OLNEY

Lewis Wesley Olney, son of Hamilton and Rebecca Olney, was born in Bloomington Ill., October 29, 1840. He was the oldest of ten children and came to Iowa with his parents in 1844. The family settled at Dudley where he grew to manhood. He united with the Columbia Methodist church in his youth and remained a consistent member during his life. Mr. Olney enlisted in company B, Eighth Iowa cavalry, July 6, 1863. He was promoted to first sergeant and served with the Union army until August 13, 1865, when he was mustered out at Macon, Ga.

Mr. Olney was married to Miss Frances A. Chisman, December 22, 1870. They had one child, Mrs. Clarence Nye, now residing at Dudley. Mrs. Olney died October 29, 1896.

Besides his daughter, Mr. Olney is survived by his sister, Mrs. Harris of Lompoc, Calif.; one brother, Noyce Olney of Pasadena, Calif.; two grandchildren, Mrs. Ethel Newquist of Dudley and Wynona Nye and also three great grandchildren.

Mr. Olney died at his home near Dudley, Sunday, April 19 at the age of 84 years. His funeral was held at the Columbia church April 21, conducted by Rev. G. W. Barber of Eldon, assisted by Rev. Tinney, the pastor of the church. --- Contributed.
