G.H. House was born in Tennessee, Jan. 29, 1822, died at his home in Van Buren county, Iowa, Feb. 18, 1893, aged 71 years and 27 days. He came to Ohio in his youth and was married there to Eliza E. Gray. March 27, 1845. They moved to Van Buren county, Iowa, in 1859 where they have since lived. Eight children were born to them, six daughters and two sons. Two of the daughters preceded him to the grave. There remain with his aged companion six children with their companions, 33 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, to mourn the loss so sad to them. He was stricken with paralysis in November last, from which he never wholly recovered, though a few days before his death he seemed to be much improved by which the hope of his friends was somewhat lifted only to be dashed by the shock of his sudden decease. Regular funeral services were conducted in the residence at 1 p.m. Monday the 20th, by A. W. Fraker of Farmington. A large gathering of sympathizing friends and neighbors were in attendance; and accompanied the remains to the Thompson cemetery a few miles from the house, where they gently laid it in silence to rest till the resurrection morn.
