MARY JANE HOSMER

Died, at her home three miles west of Farmington, January 31, 1904, at the age of 81 years and 20 days, Mrs. Hosmer, whose maiden name was Mary Jane Jones. She was born in Clark county, Kentucky, January 1, 1820. In the spring of 1836 she came to Farmington and was married to George Hosmer, June 6, 1839. To this union were born three children, George, Lawrence and Mrs. Amanda Fixsel, all of whom survive. In the year 1843, the husband of the deceased departed to the better world. Mrs. Hosmer with her three little children soon after went to Ohio and stayed there until her children got to be of much help to her. She then came back here on her farm, which her boys managed until the war broke out. In 1861 her oldest son, George, enlisted in the army. In 1863 her youngest son Lawrence was drafted, thus leaving her and her only daughter alone. With hard work and good management they stayed on the farm. Finally the war was over and the boys’ lives were spared to reach home to that dear mother, whose life has just passed away. She leaves to mourn their loss three children, two grandchildren and a host of sorrowing friends. The funeral services were held at her home on Sunday, January 24, 1904, conducted by Rev. J. Longson of Farmington. The remains were laid to rest in the Wells cemetery. Yes, dear mother, from us you have gone. Your voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in our home which never can be filled.
