Arthur Edward, the, the son of Addison and Rebecca Brown was born at Ellison, Warren county, Illinois, January 3, 1857, and died very suddenly at his home seven miles north of Milton, May 16, 1922, aged 65 years, 4 months and 16 days. There were four children in the family, a twin sister Amy, a sister Mary and a brother John, the deceased being the eldest. When he was six years old his father died and at the early age of ten he began farming under the direction of his grandfather, and from that time until his marriage he took active charge of his mother’s farm. In 1876, the family moved to Mahaska county, Iowa and located at Cedar. Here the deceased met Miss alma Warner to whom he was married, Feb. 22, 1883. They settled on a farm near Cedar, but in 1890 moved to Kirkville, Wapello county, where they lived for twenty years. Then in 1910, they moved to Milton, Van Buren county.

The deceased is survived by his wife and six children, Amy Evelyn, Walter Warner of Arlington, South Dakota, John Addison of Buffalo, N. Y., Edna Gertrude Rudkin of Merridan, Calif., Orley Edward and Howard Arthur and by his brother John M. Brown of Muskogee, Oklahoma, his mother, two sisters having preceded him in death. He is also survived by five grandchildren.

In early life he was converted and united with the Christian church, but afte coming to Iowa, there being no faith of that church in the community, he united with the Methodist church. For years he has been actively engaged in the service of the church and was always faithful in attendance. As expressed by himself, in his last sickness, he always tried to live right, and he leaves to his children the example of an honest and upright father, a true Christian gentleman.

The funeral services held at the home Sunday, May 21, at 2 o’clock and conducted by Rev. J. I. Denman, assisted by Rev. Whitman of Milton were attended by a large concourse of friends. A quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holland, Mrs. Grace Tackleson and Mr. Frank Reutzel sang beautifully several selections. Rev. Denman spoke very fittingly concerning the life of the deceased, using as the basis of his remarks “And Enoch walked with God.” The flowers were many and beautiful.

The remains were laid to rest beside those of his mother in the Sunnyside cemetery at Milton.
