TAKES OWN LIFE

-----------------

The following account of Orie Curtis Wilson’s suicide is taken from a Longmont, Colorado, paper date of Wednesday, February 13:

------------------

“Orie Curtis Wilson, 51 years old, shot himself to death with a small caliber rifle at his home, 817 Emery street, shortly after 8 o’clock this morning

“Wilson was found by his wife, Mrs. Mayme Wilson, slumped on the floor of his bedroom. He was unconscious. Dr. W. R. Benson was called and with the assistance of W. L. Haverly, who rents part of the house, place Wilson on his bed. Dr. J. W. Fonda was also called. The wounded man had been shot between the eyes. Wilson is said to have been exceptionally nervous. Worry and domestic troubles are thought to have prompted the act.

“The Wilsons came to Longmont about two and a half years ago for Mrs. Wilson’s health.

“Last April Mrs. Wilson was granted in interlocutory decree of divorce from Wilson. She was granted the custody of one son, Russell, 14 years old. February 13, 1929, a petition was filed in the district court by Mrs. Wilson’s attorney seeking the final decree, which was to be heard Friday, February 15. They have been living under the same roof and it is said Mrs. Wilson hoped to affect a reconciliation but that the attempt failed.

“Wednesday Wilson came in the house from the yard and told his wife that Mrs. J. T. Harris, a neighbor, wanted her. When Mrs. Wilson arrived at the Harris home she learned that she had not been called. Hurrying home she found her husband unconscious in his room.

“A note addressed to Mr. Wilson’s parents was found when the body was examined at the mortuary. It told them not to grieve and asked them to be good to his son Russell, and requested that his body be buried in Iowa beside his baby who died in infancy”

Orie was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Wilson, and was born near Lebanon, Van Buren county, Iowa, September 19, 1878. He was married to Miss Mayme McGlothlen 21 years ago.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Lebanon, Iowa, Sunday afternoon, February 17. Burial in the Lebanon cemetery.
