Death of Col. S. A. Moore.
Bloomfield, Ia., Feb. 13.
Col. S. A. Moore died at his home in this city Monday night of last week, at the age of 83 years. His health had been failing for sometime and his death was not unexpected. The funeral was held at the Universalist Church on Thursday afternoon conducted Rev. C. L. Stafford, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, assisted by Rev. J. C. Wilson, pastor of the Presbyterian church and Rev. H. J. Everly, pastor of the Baptist church. The remains were interred in the south cemetery. Col. Moore lived a progressive life, the influence of which is felt in the city, county and state, which he served in various offices which he was elected. The last honors conferred upon him by the voters of Davis county was his election in 1902 to state representative. He was at that time 80 years old and had the honor of being the oldest member of the house and his name has gone down in history as the nector of the house of representatives. He was a veteran of the civil war and was injured in the battle of Shiloh. Entering the war as a private he was promoted to Lieutenant of Co. G second Iowa infantry and later as Lieutenant of the 45th Iowa infantry. He was a prominent member of the Masonic and I.O.O.F. Lodges and a beloved comrade of the Grand Army of the Republic.
