Gurli Edith Mellen
Gurli Edith, eldest daughter of Kelly E. and Stella J. Mellen, was born near Stockport, Iowa June 20, 1901 and departed this life at their home near Bonaparte, Iowa, Feb. 20 1918, age 16 years, 8 months.
On Friday Feb. 8, while in high school at Bonaparte, Iowa, she was taken ill with the measles, and on the following Thursday pneumonia developed and Wednesday morning at 1 o’clock death came. Everything was done to stay the dread disease and to restore her to health by the loving parents, relatives and friends.
Gurli was a kind and loving daughter and sister, always ready to help with anything that was to be done. She always had a good word for her schoolmates and friends.
Gurli leaves to mourn her loss, her father and mother, tow brothers Carl and Elmer, and one sister Velma.
Private funeral services were held at the home of the deceased conducted by Rev. Peterson. A goodly number of friends and relatives came to pay their respects to the bereaved family, alto to lend a helping hand where needed.
Interment was in the Bonaparte Cemetery. We sincerely desire to thank our friends and neighbors for their kind attention during our sickness and death. The flowers so freely given by the high school and friends were greatly appreciated.
We thank you one and all.
