James R. Moreland

James Richard Moreland, age 83 passed away at his home in Farmington at 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning, Nov. 2. Dick, as he was known to everyone, was born in Farmington on Feb. 11, 1875, the youngest of James R. and Nancy Jane Cochrane Moreland, pioneer residents of the Farmington community. He spent his boyhood at Farmington schools, later entering the plastering trade, with his father.
A master at his trade, he worked in the surrounding territory for almost 60 years, before retiring in 1950.

On Nov. 27, 1904 he was married to Nellie Helwig, of Bonaparte, and three children Forrest D. Moreland, Thelma Moreland, and Mrs. Gertrude Strah were born to them, all of whom reside in Farmington. Dick was a great lover of his home and family, and was a kind and considerate husband and father, being especially close to his wife and children.

His health failed about a year ago, and he had recently returned from Memorial hospital in Keosauqua.
Other relatives surviving are two brothers, Charles A Moreland of San Antonio, Tex., Edgar C. Moreland of Farmington and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Dillon of Waterloo and Mrs. Jennie Hemann of St. Marys, West Va.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Farmington on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. M. Ellsworth Walker officiating.
Burial was in Greenglade cemetery.
