Died at her home six miles west of Farmington, Iowa on June 2nd, 1898 at 8:30 o’clock a.m., Mrs. Sophia Nelson, aged 54 yrs. 8 mos. and 39 days.
Mrs. Nelson whose maiden name was Sophia Anderson was born in Sweeden[sic] September, 3rd 1843 joined the Lutheran church when 15 years of age, came to this country to Keokuk in the spring of 1869, at which place she was married to John Nelson. Nov., 25th 1871. From that place they moved to Chicago where they lived three years and then they came back to Iowa in Dec. 1874, and settled on the place which they since made their home.
To this union there were born six children, Charley, Englebert, Leonard, Hilma, Lidda and Anna, all of whom survive her but the eldest son, Charley, who has preceeded her to that beautiful home where no sorrow or death enters.
She took sick on Feburary[sic] 20th 1898 and was a great sufferer the last few days of her life with heart trouble. She bade her husband and children and friends good bye and told them all to meet her in heaven. She leaves a husband, five children and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
Dear mother you have no need of our prayer
Thou hast gone where the summer is bright
Thou hast passed through the valley of
shadow
To the beautiful city of light.
We are kneeling alone with our sorrow
Alone on this sorrowful shore
We weep when we think of your footsteps
Will never come back any more.
Yes dear mother from us you have gone
Your voice we loved is stilled
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.
