On Thursday, Sept. 18 at his home in Clark county, occurred the death of Mr. John ____[NOTE: Middle initial is unreadable.] Straw, in his 37th year. Mr. Straw has suffered for a long time with the most dreadful of all dreaded afflictions – a rose cancer, which is incurable. He was born on November 9, 1853, and was married to Miss Francis Ruark, his now bereaved companion, Sept. 14, 1875, and was a most devoted husband and loving father to three boys. He was a gentleman universally liked and respected, being a whole souled conscientious man whose friends were counted by hundreds. The funeral occurred from Union Chapel on Friday at 3 p.m. by Rev. Boydston, before a large crowd of sympathizing friends who were paying their last act of friendship to their disessed[sic] friend.
