MRS. EMILY MCCOY
Emily E. Blake was born in Indiana, Nov. 10, 1813. Her mother died when she was a child and she went to live with an aunt, with whose family she lived until her marriage. Having moved with her aunt’s family to West Virginia, where she was married to Thos. McCoy in Feb. 1830. To this union was born two daughters, the oldest having passed to the better world in early womanhood, the other Frances V. Newman, who died four days before her mother. Father McCoy died Feb. 21, 1894. After his death she made her home, most of the time, with her grand-daughter Mrs. C. H. Gares, until her death Jan. 28, 1901, aged 87 years, 3 months and 18 days. Mrs. McCoy came to Iowa from West Virginia in the spring of 1851 and lived for several years near Farmington, removing from there to what was known as Pink Prairie and later to Clark co., Mo. Funeral at the Acasto Chapel Wednesday, Jan. 30. 1901. Sermon by Rev. A. W. Wiggins in the presence of old friends and relatives. “Mam” as she was called was always cheerful and happy and enjoyed herself with the young people. She rests in peace by the side of her companion and daughter.
