Gone From Earth.
While death is ever attended by sadness, deeply sad was that of Fredrick M. Farnum. He was born in Ipswich, Essex county, Mass. June 28, 1819, and died Jan. 6th, 1892, at his residence in Harrisburg township, aged 72 years, 7 months and 7 days. The deceased was the son of J. M. and Hannah Farnum and one of a family of 7 children 3 of whom are yet living. His youth until 18 years of age was passed between Ipswich, Mass., and near Hookset, N. H. In the spring of 1837 he emigrated with his parents to Iowa, what was then known as the Wis. Territory and settled in Van Buren Co. where he has ever since resided until his death. The deceased was married in 1845 to Miss Mary Ann Sadler who survives him. Seven children blessed his union, five of them have gone before and two with his widow are left to mourn the loss of a good husband and father are sadened [sic] and mourn with them. Mr. Farnum possessed all the noble qualities that go so far toward making a true and honest friend, affectionate husband and kind father. He was considered an honorable man and never had any litigation with anyone. He was a scientific farmer and accumulated a large estate by strict economy and industry. The funeral services were conducted at the residence at 11 o'clock on Sunday 10th, by Rev. J. Lee, pastor of the Baptist Church then he was laid to rest in the vault on the farm. A large concourse of friends and neighbors assembled to testify to the respect in which the deceased is held. The pall bearers were Messrs. G. Miller, I. Cheney, P. Fletcher, T. Baugher, L. Merit and D. Derr. The funeral was conducted by G. A. Demple in his usual satisfactory manner.
