Belle Townsend, eldest daughter of Miles and Sarah A. Hanna and wife of A. E. Townsend, was born in Lee county Iowa, April 29, 1849, united in marriage to A. E. Townsend August 3, 1876. To this union was born one daughter, Carrie Belle, and one son, Russell Everett. She died May 29, 1908, aged 59 years and 1 month.

Besides her husband, daughter and son she leaves an aged mother to whom she was devoted and who for years had been her boon comanion, one sister Mrs. R. C. Pease of Mt. Hamill, Iowa, two brothers, J. G. and J. L. Hanna, in California, many relatives and a host of affectionate friends.
