Mrs. Alfred Huggans

Mary Rebecca, daughter of George W. and Lavina Gorman, was born at Memphis, Mo., Dec. 10, 1856, and departed this life at her home near Cantril Feb. 11, 1842, at the age of 85 years, 2 months. She was united in marriage with Alfred Huggans on Dec. 26, 1875. Three children blessed this home. David, dying in childhood. Harley G. of Cantril, and Hattie E. Miller of Denver, Colo.

The husband passed away Nov. 3, 1926. Since that time she and the son have continued their residence on the home farm. Many years ago she united with the Upton M.E. church.

Mrs. Huggans is among the last of the pioneers of Upton vicinity, having spent the greater portion of 81 years on the home farm. Her many good acts and deeds of kindness will long live in the minds of her neighbors and friends. As long as health permitted, weather and roads were never too bad to keep her from ministering to those in need of assistance. She will be sadly missed by her many friends young and old.

With her passing she leaves the son, daughter, two grandchildren, Craig Van Auken of Cantril, and Villa Bashford of Boulder, Colo., also three great grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Henry Schoff of Los Angeles also survives.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in the Cantril Methodist church in charge of the pastor, Jay N. Waterman. Burial in Cantril cemetery.
