Paul Elerick Jones.
Paul Elerick Jones, son of Rev. and Mrs. W. Jones, was born December 8, 1896, and died Wednesday, January 23, 1907, aged ten years, one month, and __teen [looks like "niteen"] days.
He was suddenly taken ill with appendicitis on the Sunday previous to his death and rapidly grew worse until the attending physician decided that it would require an operation to save his life. Arrangements were made to have the operations performed in the Keokuk hospital where he was taken Wednesday, and where he died less than an hour after arriving. When he arrived in Keokuk he was so weak the operation was not even attempted.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. church Friday afternoon in charge of Rev. E. J. Shook, pastor of the Willard Street church of Ottumwa, and Rev. Biagg, pastor of the M. E. church at Mt. Sterling. The deparment of the school of which Paul was a member attended the service, the boys and girls testifying by their presence of their regard for their schoolmate.
Rev. Snook was well acquainted with Paul and in his address spoke of him as a frank, manly beautiful boy; one who had nothing to hide from his parents or friends, meeting you just a manly Christian boy should.
" can scarcely believe it possible my little friend Paul is gone so suddenly and unexpectedly. But, father, mother, you have four children still; three of them are here, the other has gone just over the tide."
The remains were taken to Ottumwa Saturday for interrment. No relatives of the family attended the funeral here but some of them were present at the interrment at Ottumwa.
