Mrs. W.S. Hargrove
Mrs. W.S. Hargrove, 66, died Friday morning at her home four miles northeast of Milton. Her health had been failing for several months.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Milton Methodist church conducted by the pastor, Rev. H.E Butler. The body bearers were the present and former presidents of the Van Buren county Farm Bureau Federation, Glen Hargrove, Floyd Nelson, E.J. Mueller, George Leffler, W.B. Tade and Frank Holland.
Besides her husband she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lester Findley of Cleveland, Okla., Mrs. Vivian Pederson of Spencer, Wisc., and Mrs. Lena Robinson of Red Lodge, Montana; also by two brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Hargrove’s maiden name was Effie May Pickens, daughter of Simon and Julia Lee Pickens, born on a farm near Douds May 8, 1874. She belonged to a family of twelve children of whom the following are living: Mrs. Etta Boone of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Nora Coleson of Bloomfield; Ralph Pickens of Gilbert, Arizona, and William Pickens of Des Moines.Mrs. Hargrove was chosen in 1931 as the most outstanding farm woman in Van Buren county in a test made in connection with the Iowa State fair. She took second in the district contest in which there were eleven counties. She was a member of the Grace Methodist church and of the Farm Bureau.
She was united in marriage with William S. Hargrove Nov. 28, 1894, at Troy. All their married life has been spent in Jackson township.
