Long before the sun illumined the eastern horizon Wednesday, January 24, 1906, the people of the vicinity of Big Mound were shocked to learn that Geo. W. Stein was dead. Mr. Stein had been in his usual good health until the Sunday previous to his death.

In 1903 Mr. Stein and family moved to the farm where he since has lived. He was an earnest church worker and seldom missed a service, being a member of the German Evangelical church.
A short funeral service was conducted by Rev. Williamson was held at the residence Wednesday afternoon and the remains were at once taken to his old home in Illinois for interrment, being accompanied by two members of the Woodman camp at Hillsboro of which he was an honored member.
During Mr. Stein's stay in this vicinity he has made many friends who extend sincerest sympathy to the grief stricken family.
