Gibson Rites were Held June 11th

Funeral services were conducted at Milton Christian church Friday afternoon, June 11 at 2 o’clock in charge of Rev. W.W. Coverdale.

Alice Mae Groves, daughter of Thomas and Rachel Groves was born on a farm near Cantril, Iowa August 20, 1872 and passed away at the Covington Nursing Home in Bloomfield June 8, 1948 at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 18 days.

She was united in marriage to William H. Gibson Jan. 18, 1899. He preceded her in death Dec. 16, 1944. Mrs. Gibson spent her married life on a farm near Troy. Her health failed four years ago, then she was taken to Bloomfield where she passed away.

She was a loving mother, a kind neighbor and a friend to all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her passing four daughters, Pearl Glattfelder of Floris, Violet Barker of Ottumwa, Goldie Kerr of Keosauqua, Weltha Roth of Fairfield, and three sons, Roy E. Gibson of Mishawaka Ind., Lester Gibson of Shelton, Neb., and Floyd Gibson on the home place near Troy. One son, Forrest Gibson, was killed in action on the Attua Island, May 29, 1943, a son, Clarence Gibson passed away Feb. 2, 1948, also one son and one daughter died in infancy.

She leaves one sister Mrs. Amanda McKee of Bloomfield, two brothers, Robert and George Groves of Douds. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Franklin, Jake, Charlie and William, also, two sisters, Jane Wise and Ida Luke, she leaves ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends.

She was a member of the Christian church at Milton for a number of years.

From this world of pain and sorrow, to the land of peace and rest, God hath taken you, Dear Mother, where you have found eternal rest.
