Frank Bagby, Sr., dies at 83
Frank G. Bagby Sr., 83, 502 South Fifth, died at 11:40 a.m. Monday at Ottumwa Regional Health Center, Ottumwa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Gates officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the Heart Fund and Fairfield High School Library.
Bagby was born Feb. 13, 1904 in Cantril, the son of James and Mary Warning Bagby, and lived his life in Jefferson County. He married Georgia Hootman Oct. 7, 1925 in the Methodist parsonage at Fairfield. He owned a hammer mill and ground feed for farmers for five years; worked on the Fairfield Police Force for seven years; was security guard at American Chain and Cable for 11 years and maintenance man at Bethany Home for nine years, retiring in 1968. He also served as special security for the Fairfield school system at dances, sports events, travelogues and concerts for 45 years. He was a past member of Eagles Lodge No. 1927.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Myrna Corry, Fairfield; two sons, Frank Jr., and Keith, both of Fairfield; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Chester, Stockport, and a sister, Zella Keller, Fairfield. Five brothers preceded him in death.
