Mrs. Scott, Aged 97, Dies

Wednesday evening of last week Mrs. Matilda M. Scott died at the home of her daughter Mrs. N. J. Frazee in Keosauqua, aged 97 years, 2 months, and 7 days. She was born in Meggs county, Ohio, on Dec. 18, 1839, was married to Samuel H. Scott.
In 1849 they moved to Vernon, Van Buren county, Iowa where the husband engaged in milling and continued in that business until the flouring mills at Vernon and Bentonsport discontinued operation.
Mr. Scott died in 1909, after which Mrs. Scott made her home in Keosauqua with her daughter. She was a member of eleven children, all living except Warren, a miller by profession, who died in Bentonsport a few years ago.

The surviving children are Mrs. N.J. Frazee, Mrs. Ellen White, Mrs. Carolina Eaton, Mrs. Rebecca Jackson, John Scott, Mrs. Mary Corns, Mrs. Hattie Corns, Frank, George, and Winfield. There are 37 grandchildren and 71 great grandchildren and 22 great great grandchildren.

The funeral and burial were at Vernon, Friday, Nov. 12, 1915, services in charge of Ed Lewis of the Keosauqua Christian church. Few mothers die, leaving surviving immediate descendents to the number of 140, as is instanced with Mrs. Scott.
