George D. NELSON

George D. NELSON, 73, of Birmingham died Monday morning, Jan 17, 2000, at his home.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham with the Rev. Paul Campbell officiating. Interment with military rites will be at Spencer Cemetery near Stockport. Open visitation begins at 2 p.m. today with family present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to Birmingham First Responders or to the family.

Mr. NELSON was born June 17, 1926, in Chicago. He was the adopted son of Ralph and Elsie NELSON. He married Helen Marie CLARK July 25, 1945, in Mount Pleasant.

Mr. NELSON grew up in Stockport, where he attended school. He served in the Army-Air corps during World War II.

He was an active member of the Bethel Worship Center near Douds. He had worked at Prairie Grain and Feed in Stockport, as a machinist at American Chain and Cable in Fairfield, and was currently a greeter at Wal-Mart in Fairfield.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, David NELSON of Haysville, Kan., Danny NELSON of Lockridge and Frank NELSON of Stockport; two daughters, Patricia CARDER of Agency and Deb DOROTHY of Birmingham; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nelsine JOHNSON of Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary; and one grandson.
