Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:00 p.m.---------------
Funeral services for Emsley F. CANADY, well known Birmingham resident, were held at 2:00 p.m. today at the Methodist church in Birmingham in charge of Jay Waterman of Cantril. Burial was in Spencer cemetery northeast of Birmingham.
Mr. Canady passed away at his home in Birmingham Saturday, July 25. He was 81 years, six months, and 17 days old at the time of his death.
He was born near Glasgow on January 8, 1861. He had lived in Jefferson and Van Buren counties all of his life and was engaged in farmers until recent years when he retired.
He married Miss Carrie GIBERSON on June 3, 1883. She preceded him in death June 9, 1938. To them 14 children were born, nine of which survive. They are Mrs. Cecil MANNING, Elmer and Albert CANADY, all of Birmingham; Miss Bessie HOOTMAN, Floris; Fred CANADY, Selma; Mrs. Ella POPEJOY, Pleasant Plain; Mrs. Gladys DYER, Ottumwa; and Blanche COIL, Columbus Junction. Also surviving are 30 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Mr. CANADY married Mrs. Maggie LEEPER, October 18, 1939 who also survives.
