Funeral services for Gladys G. PENCIL, 83, who died Sunday afternoon at Good Samaritan Home, Keosauqua, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery, Ottumwa, at 1 p.m. A memorial has been established to Free Methodist Church. Friends may call at their convenience at the funeral home.
Mrs. PENCIL was born Sept. 7, 1902 in Van Buren County, the daughter of Emsley and Carrie GIBERSON CANADY, and grew up in Van Buren County. She lived in Ottumwa, Pleasant Plain, and from 1967 to 1983 in Fairfield, before moving to the Good Samaritan Home. She married Moses L. KIGER Aug. 25, 1923. She married Charles PENCIL July 3, 1954. He died in July, 1966. Twelve brothers and sisters also precededd her in death.
Surviving are a son, E. G. KIGER, Ottumwa; a sister, Ella POPEJOY, Fairfield; three step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. PENCIL taught for two years at a school near Glasgow, and managed the Bethany Home at Fairfield from May 10, 1967 to Dec. 18, 1977. She was a member of Fairfield Free Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge.
