Death of Dr. Stutsman.

Last week we mentioned in these columns, the death of Dr. Stutsman of Burlington. We clip the following notice of his death from the Gate City, of April 3. The disease which caused his death was acute eatarrh? of the stomach. At one time he with his family resided in Bentonsport.

After a long illness, Dr. S. H. Stutsman died at his home in Burlington Thursday night. He was a brother of Judge A. H. Stutsman, of this district. The Hawkeye says" "Dr. Stutsman was born October 25, 1836, in the state of Indiana, and at the age of six years came with his parents to Lee county Iowa. Choosing the practice of medicine as his profession he entered the medical department of the State University of Iowa, then located at Keokuk and granduated in 1663 [sic]. The same year he volunteered for army service and was made assistant surgeon to the forty-fifth regiment of the Iowa volunteer infantry. He remained with the army until September, 1865, at which time, the war being over and his services were no longer required in the camp and hospital, he made his home in Lucas county, Iowa, and began to practice his profession. In the year, 1876, Dr. Stutsman saw a more promising field in Burlington, removed here with his family and made this city his home to the time of his death.

[year not given but position in scrapbook would suggest 1891]
