NEWMAN.

Francis V. McCoy was born in West Virginia, April 12, 1842, where she spent the first nine years of her life. Came with her parents to Iowa in the spring of 1851 and settled at Salubria near Farmington. Here the family resided for several years, when they moved to Pink Prairie, where Francis grown to womanhood was married to Henry Newman, November 16, 1863. They then settled in Clark county, Missouri, where they lived until the death of her husband who died February 24, 1893. After the death of Mr. Newman she moved to Kahoka, Mo., where she resided until some two years ago when she moved to Farmington, Iowa, and made her home with her daughter Mrs. C. H. Gares. She was the mother of three children, Bertha, who is the wife of C. H. Gares, G. T. Newman, of Bonaparte, Iowa, and Edson Newman, of Mt. Sterling Iowa, who were all present at the death-bed, January 24, 1901, when at the age of 58 years, 9 months and 12 days she quietly passed away. Mrs. Newman was converted and united with the M. E. church in 1882 in which communion she lived until her removal to Kahoka when she united with the Presbyterian church, and later by letter with the Congregational church of Farmington, in which fellowship she was a faithful member until her death. Sunday at 2 p.m. after an appropriate sermon by Rev. A. W. Wiggins, her mortal remains were laid to rest in the Acasto cemetery.
