I found the following obit posted on the Roots Web Message Board -Message
(Van Buren), Author: Rhonda Rowe: Surnames Shepherd, McCracken, Bales
Classification: obituary.

Hannah Jane McCracken was born in the state of Ohio, March 22, 181 and
removed to this state when but a child. She was united in marriage to F. O.
Shepherd August 22, 1860. Six children were born to them four of whom are
still living. One son E.N. Shepherd of College View, Neb.: Mrs. I.N. Bales
of Portland, Ore.: and Carrie and Bertha who were always with her. At the
age of 15 she united with the M.E. church and remained a consistant member
of that denomination until 1878 when she united with the Seventh-day
Adventist denomination in which faith she died aged 69 years 3 months 3
days. Funeral services were held at her late home at 2:30 p.m. Monday
conducted by Rev. H. Taylor of Bonaparte, with interment in Bentonsport
cemetery.
