Jonathan W.Nelson died at his home near Iowaville,Van Buren Co. 9 Feb.1888. He was a native of Pendelton Co. W.Va. He came to Iowa as early as 1836, first settling in Lee Co. and in a few years to Iowaville. He was married to Christena Haigler, March 24,1831 in W.VA. They had 12 children, Perry, Isaac, Jehu, Joseph, Jesse, Frank,Mary Jane,Lucinda, Kate, Amanda and Lizzie. His brother, Isaac, also lived on a farm in Iowaville, close by. Their mother, Nancy Nelson was the widow of Benham Nelson who fought in the War of 1912 from VA. she and another son, Zebulon came to Iowaville to live with the other two sons after the father died. All are buried in the old Iowaville cemetery at Selma, Iowa.
