Harry 'Jay" HARPER

Harry "Jay" HARPER, 79, 404 S. Third St., died at 8:45 a.m., Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Cemetery near Stockport. Family visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Fairfield Senior Citizen Center.

Mr. Harper was born Sept. 2, 1918, near Utica in Van Buren County, the son of John Virgil and Iva Mae HOOPER HARPER. He married Eileen WATSON Dec. 8, 1945, in Fairfield. He lived in the Fairfield community 28 years. He previously lived in Stockport and Hillsboro. He was a 1936 Stockport High School graduate. He was a butcher and meat cutter and owner of Hillsboro Locker and Grocery Store for 13 years.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Ronald of Fort Madison, and Merlin of Rochester, Minn.; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
