Bonaparte, Iowa
OBITUARY SKETCH.After months of intense suffering, the spirit of Charles M. Baber was released from his disease stricken body, to return unto its maker.
Charles M. Baber was born in McMinn county, Tennessee, April 2, 1832.
He was early thrown upon his own resources as he was left an orphan while yet a small child.
During the fifties he came to Iowa and was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth L. Wilson, March 17, 1851.
To them were born four sons: The oldest, Oliver: Born March 1, 1855, is a resident of Bonaparte. Elmer E. born April 19, 1862, lived only a few months dying September 4 of the same year. Twin boys were born April 11, 1866. One died in infancy and the other, Willie C., lives in Montana.
Mrs. Baber died August 17, 1866, but Miss Nancy Wilson filled her sister's place to the motherless boys, and became the wife of Mr. Baber January 5, 1867.
Mr. Baber enlisted in the Army August 15, 1862, as corporal of Co. C. 30th Regiment Iowa Infantry, and honorably served his country during the years of the civil conflict, being discharged July 6, 1865, from the U. S. general hospital at Sickle.
He was united with the Presbyterian church of Bonaparte March 3, 1903.
Mr. Baber had long been a suffer and died Monday, May 11, 1903, at the age of 71 years, 1 month and 9 days.
Of a family of two, a sister, Mrs. Sarah Johnson, is now living in Muscatine, Iowa.
Mr. Baber was one of the oldest residents of Bonaparate.
