DOUDS -- Mary C. LAUGHLIN, 88, formerly of Douds died at 1:15 a.m. Sept. 21, 1993, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.
She was born June 3, 1905, in Lick Creek Township in Van Buren County to Jacob and Bessie CANADAY HOOTMAN. She married David E. LAUGHLIN on July 2 1932, in Memphis, Mo. He died June 12, 1980.
She attended school in Keosauqua and was a graduate of Douds High School. After completing the Normal Training program at Parsons College in Fairfield, she taught for 10 years in rural Van Buren County schools. She and her husband farmed in the Douds area until moving into Douds in 1966. She became a resident of Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in 1993. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Churh in Douds, where she was a long time Sunday School teacher and treasurer. She was a member of United Methodist Women and Douds Community Ladies Aide. She also was active in Douds Field Day Association.
She is survived by a son, Jim of Douds; two daughters, Norma Jane Witt of Douds and Julie Williams of Buffalo, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and two brothers, Hollis of Ollie and Jacob Jr. of Floris.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Zelda Brewer and a brother, Jim Hootman.
The service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery north of Douds.
Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m Thursday.
Memorials may be made to Van Buren Good Samaritan Center and may be left at the funeral home.
