Mary E. Patterson was born in Indiana, July 10, 1849, and in June, 1872, she was united in marriage to Reuben Thomas. To this union were born seven children, six sons and one daughter, all of whom, with the father, are gone except Harvey and Otto. Mrs. Thomas was a victim of tuberculosis and this disease, together with diabetis, was the cause of her taking off at her home southwest of Pittsburg on Sunday evening, Sept. 21, 1905, her age being 56 years, 2 months and 14 days. At the age of 18 she united with the M. E. church, and was a member at Bethel at the time of her death. Her boys, however, held their membership at Pittsburg, and she for the most part attended church at that place. She was ever faithful to duty and was truly one of God’s saints. The saying in the Scripture of Jesus, that he was made perfect by suffering, can also be said of her. Funeral services were conducted from the Bethel church on Monday afternoon, by Rev. J.W. Carson, after which the body was laid away in the nearby cemetery. Peace be to her memory.
