Monday, June 12, 1961 marked the passing of Otto Elmer Abernathy at the Ottumwa hospital.
He was born May 3, 1889 on a farm in Scotland County,. Mo., where he spent his entire life engaged in farming. He was the son of Edgar and Ella Abernathy.
On July 02,1922, he was united in marriage to Thelma Mae Webber. Four children were born to this union; Mrs. Juanita Sharp of New Sharon, Ia.; Richar Burl Abernathy of Cantril; Billy Abernathy of St. Joseph, Mo.; and Mrs. June Helsel of Cantril.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, two daughters and six grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Lulu Stott of Memphis, Mo.; three brothers, Frank Kisling of Hollywood, Calif., Lee Abernathy of Memphis, Mo. and Ora Abertnathy of Bloomfield, Ia. preceeding him in death was a brother John Abernathy of Stockport, Ia. He leaves to mourn his passing a host of friends and relatives.
He was a lifelong member of the Prairie View Methodist Church; a member of Apollo Lodge No. 401 A.F.& A.M., Cantril; and a memeber of Modern Woodman of America.
Memorial services were held at the Prairie View Methodist church, June 15 at 2 p.m. Elder Herbert C. Shaw of Cantril Officiated. Masonic rites were held at the graveside with Harry Holm in charge.
