John S. Abernathy was born April 12, 1847, in Davis Co., Iowa, where he grew to manhood. Oct. 3, 1869, he was married to Eva Christy and moved to Clark Co., where he lived for 28 years, with the exception of six years which were spent in Jasper Co., Mo.

In 1897 he moved with his family to their present home near Bonaparte.

To Mr. and Mrs. Abernathy were born four children: George Rufus of Roy, New Mexico; Thomas LosAngeles, cal.; Mrs. O. A. White of Acasto, Mo.; and Hattie, the youngest who is at home.

During the summer of 1916 Mr. Abernathy was ailing but grew better and seemed to be in his usual health until about four weeks ago when he had an attack of bronchial pneumonia. He had nearly recovered from this illiness when death came suddenly on Friday, Nov, 10, at about 2 p.m.

Mr. Abernathy was a quiet unassuming man, a good neighbor and a loyal friend, was liked by all who knew him. but was loved most by the ones who knew him best. To the bereaved family the loss of the devoted husband and father cannot be expressed.

It is only the beautiful memory of his good life, well spent that will help him face the years so empty without him.

Besides a wife, two sons and two daughters, Mr. Abernathy leaves three brothers---Oliver H. of Acasto, Geo.W., St. Francisville, Mo., Joel S. of Arapahoe, colo., and one sister---Mrs. J. F. Hagler of Shenandoah, Iowa, also five grandchildren. We will see him no more on earth but our lives are richer for his having lived.

Funeral services were held. Wednesday, a short service at the late home and regular service at Acasto. rev, Peterson being in charge. Interment at Acasto cemetery.

I am not related to this family.
