ROBERT J. VERNON

Robert J. Vernon, 77, of Fairfield, died February 1, 2003, at Jefferson County Hospital.

He was born September 8, 1925, in Delta the son of Rex O. and Mildred Eastburn Vernon. He married Maxine Veach on October 31, 1950, in Quincy, Illinois.

He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1943, and later attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, lllinois. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific aboard the USS Corregidor. He was a resident of Fairfield since 1959. He worked at Teeter Cleaners, O'Grady Cleaners, Martin Drug Store and retired after 21 years at the Iowa Malleable Co. He was it member of the VFW and the molders union.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter Shelley Shelangoski of Fairfleld; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Martha Jean Baldwin.

Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, February 4, 2003, at Garrett Cemetery north of Delta.

The family requests memorials to the Trojan Booster Club or Parkview Care Center Activity Fund.
