Death Takes Pat Murphy
KEOSAUQUA - Earle N. (Pat) Murphy. 71, died Friday at 8:45 p.m. at his home north of Keosauqua after a lingering illness.
A prominent farmer, he was recentlv named man of the year for 1964 by the Keosauqua
Commercial Club.He was born Nov. 16. 1893 near Mount Zion, the son of James F. and Minnie Nelson Murphy. The family moved to Oklahoma, where he graduated from high school at Vinita. He also was a graduate of the Missouri School of Mines at Rolla. He was a lieutenant in the Army in World War I.
On Jan. 3, 1918, he was married to Blanche Sherod of Mount Zion, who survives. Since 1933 they lived on the farm north of here with Mrs. Murphy's mother, Mrs. Maggie Sherod, who survives. Besides his widow he leaves a sister, Mrs. Margaret Nair of Vinita, Okla. A brother Kenneth preceded him in death.
He served on the board of Van Buren County Memorial Hospital since it was formed 1940s and was its secretary at the time of his death. For a number of years he was local iagent of the Farmers Home Administration.
The service will be Monday at 2 p.m, at the Mount Zion Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Millers Chapel Cemetery. The body is at the Burnett-Catcott Funeral Chapel.
