OBITUARY OF SAMUEL E. FOSTER

Samuel Estep Foster, eldest son of John and Jane Foster, was born Sept. 18, 1845, in Fayette county, Pennsylvania. When a child he came with his parents to Ohio, and later, in 1854, moved with his parents to this county. He moved to the vicinity of Cantril in 1886, where he was a prosperous farmer and stockman until two years ago; since then he made his home with his son John in Granview, Washington, where he passed away June 29th, at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 11 days.

He was united in maraiage [sic] with Alinda Pamela Meek of Bonaparte, Iowa, October 4, 1871, she having preceded him in death ten years. To this union were born 9 children, 4 of whom died in infancy, and a daughter Effie May Pittman, who died in 1903 at the age of 28 years. The living children are Myrtle McLane of Grandview [sic], Wash.; Nannie McManis of Cantril; Kate Saar of Henderson, Io., and John of Granview, Wash. He also leaves 13 grandchildren.

Three sisters and four brothers still survive him: Kizzie Slaughter, Queen City, Mo.; Elizabeth Russell, Independence, Kans.; Nettie LaFollett, Knoxville, Iowa; Milton D., of Milton; William L. and Ira J. of West Grove, and Jesse F. of Belknap, Iowa. Besides these he leaves to mourn his departure a number of other relatives and friends.

At an early age he was converted and united with the Baptist church of Bonaparte, and later moved his membership to Milton. All these years he lived the life of an earnest christain [sic], and his influence for good among his friends and neighbors will continue to bear fruit. He was a member of Apollo Lodge No. 461 of Cantril.

IN MEMORY OF OUR FATHER

He was always patient, kind and good;
Father, dear, we will miss thee; but we
will never forget thee.
We loved thee in life, we loved thee in death;
And we still love thee as we lay thee down to rest.
Rest, father, rest, the trials of life are o'er.
