From the Clark County Courier 3-7-1941
MRS. EMERY ALEXANDER
(NOTE: Her children insist her name was Gertie and never Gertrude)

Gertrude Cavitt ALexander, oldest daughter of Wm. C. and Mary Jane Cavitt was born Sept. 28, 1876, in Clark county, Mo., and passed away Feb.27, 1941 at the home of her son (Wiley) near Mt. Sterling, Iowa.

When a child she came with her parents to a farm six miles northeast of Mt. Sterling, where she grew to young womanhood. While a young woman she united with the Methodist church in which fellowship she remained faithful until the end of her earthly life.

On Feb. 6, 1898, she was united in marriage with Emery Alexander at Keosauqua, to which union eleven children were born, all of whom survive her, namely: Arthur of Wyaconda, Mo.; Wiley and Eugene of Mt. Sterling; Edna Thomas of Milton; Leonard of Geneseo, Ill.; Stanley and Mrs. Aletha Scott of Bentonsport; Neal of Davenport; Ray and Mae at home. (Ray should be Roy and Grace was omitted. Grace would have been married to Foster Brewer by that time. She and brother Stanley would have probably had Galesburg, Ill. addresses.)

In passing she leaves besides her children metioned, three brothers Jesse and Clyde of California; and Earl of Des Moines; one sister, Mrs. Bessie Avery of California; 16 grandchildren, several neices and nephews, and a host of friends. Her husband, Mr. Alexander, died Jan. 5, 1940. Her father and mother preceded her in death some years ago.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church in Cantril.
