Octavia Brown, daughter of John P. and Mary C. Brown, was born Sept. 22, 1853 in Leando, Iowa and departed this life Nov. 19, 1920, at 11 a.m., aged 67 years, 1 month, and 28 days. She met this great adventure in the same calm spirit of faith which had characterized her whole attitude toward life itself.

Mrs. Strickling was stricken something over a year ago with an illness that gradually destroyed her physical life. All that skill and loving hands could do was done, and when the end came so peacefully she was attended by those who have known her longest, and therefore loved her best; for to know her was to love her.

She was married Nov. 20, 1878, to Joseph C. Strickling of Keosauqua, and had lived in this county all of her life, excepting a short time spent with an aunt in Missouri.

She is survived by her husband, her only son, J. Henry Strickling, his wife and daughter, and other relatives, and a host of friends who gathered Sunday to pay a tribute of love to her memory and meditate upon this mysterious incident of life.

Mrs. Strickling was an honored member of the Eastern Star, Rebekah, and Degree of Honor lodges. She united with the Christian church when only a girl and remained faithful to her trust until God called for her.
