OBITUARY

Samuel Jefferson Rodgers, son of Eugene Wesley and Minnie Rodgers, was born in Scotland county, Mo., on December 25, 1898, and on September 21, 1930, met an untimely death at Upland, Calif., as a result of trying to save the life of his wife after the explosion of a gasoline stove in their home. His heroic attempt failed, however, and Mrs. Rodgers died the same evening. Mr. Rodgers had reached the age of 31 years, 8 months and 27 days. They were united in marriage at Nursery, Texas, on July 21, 1928.

Mr. Rodgers early life was spent with his parents on the farm. On June 15, 1918, he enlisted with the U. S. army and was immediately stationed at the Great Lakes naval training camp as machinist mate until he was mustered out in April, 1919. In the fall of 1921 he moved to Walla Walla, Wash, where he was engaged at the machinist trade, afterward going to Los Angeles, Calif., where he spent the remainder of his life.

There is left to mourn his passing, the father and mother, five sisters and one brother, one brother and two sisters having preceded him in death.
