JOHN RILEY DAVIDSON
John Riley, eldest son of Benjamin and Delilah Davidson, was born in Highland county, Ohio, on Dec. 18, 1842, and departed this life at the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Chas. Davidson, southwest of Pittsburg, Van Buren county, Iowa, on March 16, 1927, being 84 [years] [blotted out] motnhs [sic] and 24 days of age.
Brother Davidson grew to manhood in the vicinity of his birth and was married there to Miss Harriett Charles, August 2, 1866. To them were born two children, John Wesley and Charles Franklin, both of whom preceded their father in death, J. W. in August 1893, and C. F. on Jan. 29, 1923. His wife departed this life Sept. 16, 1893.
He was afterwards married to Martha T. Betts of Keosauqua, Iowa, who died July 11, 1910.
Since then brother Davidson has made his home in his son Charles' home.
On Nov. 19, 1923, Mr. Davidson suffered a stroke which left him speechless and weakened in mind so that he became a great care, but through it all, his son's wife gave her self unstintingly to the task and cared for him during all the years of his helpfulness [sic]. On March 14, 1927, he suffered a second stroke and only lingered two days, thus ending long years of suffering.
He was converted in youth and united with the Methodist Episcopal church in Ohio and upon moving near Keosauqua became identified with the Methodist church there.
Mr. Davidson was the last of his family, a brother and two sisters long ago preceding him in death. He leaves to mourn their loss only four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Keosauqua on March 17, conducted by the pastor, M. D. Cox, and burial was made in Fellows cemetery.
