William Meek, brother of Robert, Isaiah and Joseph Meek of this place died at his home in San Lorenz, California. Deceased was one of the early pioneers of Bonaparte but went overland to Oregon, in 1847 and located near Portland, where he lived until 1859 being engaged in the fruit growing and lumbering business. In 1859 he removed to San Lorenzo California, where he resided till his death. Mr. Meek took with him from this country in 1847, a wagon load of fruit trees and seeds, which constituted the first lot of grafted fruit trees on the Pacific coast. The party with which he made the trip from Oregon to California, in 1848 made the first wagon tract from Oregon to California passing through the famous Modoc country.

Deceased has been thrice married; his first wife having died here, his second in California, while his third survives him.

He leaves five children. The funeral took place December 29th, under the auspices of the Odd Fellows, of which he was a member and was attended by a large concourse of people, all of the stores of San Lorenzo being closed and the society flag at half mast, as a token of respect to his memory. His age was 64 years.
