The Keosauqua Republican
Thursday, June 23, 1927
(front page)

MRS. JASPER BONNETT

Miss Rachel A. Hall was born on August 29, 1855 on a farm near Libertyville, Jefferson county. She was married to Jasper Bonnett at Keosauqua, Iowa, March 10, 1880.

There were born to this union two sons and one daughter. On March 2, 1920, Mrs. Bonnett was called to mourn the loss of her daughter, Elsie, and on December 8, 1922, her husband passed away.

Mrs. Bonnett has lived all her life in Jefferson and Van Buren counties, having lived in her home in Birmingham for 80 years.

For the last few years she has been failing in health and last Monday morning at 2:45 she passed to her heavenly reward.

There are left to mourn her departure her two sons, Jesse N. of Cresco, Iowa, and Charles E. of Brighton, Iowa, 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. Spencer of Chariton, Ia., Mrs. Jesse Foss, Alpine, N.Y., Mrs. E. Disbrow, Wamic, Ore., Mrs. Fannie Smith, Hood River, Ore., and a host of friends and relatives. Mrs. Bonnett was a member of the Baptist church at Fairfield and was a loving mother and loved by all that knew her.

The funeral service was conducted at the home in Birmingham, Ia., at 2:15 and at the Methodist church at 2:30 by the Rev. Fred Skewes, pastor. The ladies of the Methodist church, Mrs. Glen Williams and Mrs. A. Angle sang, assisted by Miss L Williams at the piano. Burial was at Maple Hill cemetery.

------

Wife of Samuel Jasper Bonnett. The obituary uses the birth year of 1855; however, the headstone uses the birth year as being 1857.

Children: Lora, Cora, Jesse N., Nelson, Minnie, Charles E., and Elsie Jane Bonnett.

Note: The obituary transcribed followed a common custom of omitting mention of deceased children. Thus, the mention of two sons and a daughter is somewhat misleading given the other children listed above that were born to this couple.

Buried at Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham, Van Buren County, Iowa. Died June 6, 1927 in Van Buren County, Iowa.
