Mrs. Sarah Haney Simmons.

Sarah Jane Haney, daughter of Jacob and Catherine Haney, was born in Ohio Feb. 21, 1836 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Helwig at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 1st 1909. Age 72 years 10 months and 10 days.

On March 26, 1857 she was married to David Simmons. To this union four children were born, one daughter Laura, dying on Aug. 4, 1881. The other three, George V. Simmons of Des Moines, T. I. Simmons of Vernon Prairie and Mrs. Fred Helwig of near Bonaparte with the husband and father survive her. She also leaves two brothers, one sister and six grandchildren.

Mrs. Simmons had long been a member of the Methodist church, having accepted Christ and uniting with the church in early girlhood. She held membership in the Bonaparte Methodist church at the time of her death. The deceased had lived for many hears on Vernon Prairie and had gained a large circle of friends who always held her in high esteem and respect as was attested by the large company gathered at the funeral service. Services were conducted at Story Chapel on Sunday afternoon Jan. 3rd 1909 by the Rev. George Blagg and interment was made in the Thompson cemetery.
