Kenneth P. Downard

Kenneth P. Downard, 98, of Keosauqua died at 1:45 P.M. Saturday Feb. 28, 2009 at his home.
He was born Feb. 7, 1911 south of Stockport to John Lincoln and Justina Bohun Downard.
He married Miriam E. Johnston Oct. 26, 1938 in Fairfield. She preceded him in death May 7, 2003.

Kenneth graduated from Stockport High School and spent his active life as a building contractor in Keosauqua. He was known as an expert craftsman, and was a 50 year member of Keosauqua Lodge No. 10, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons.

Surviving are a daughter, Betty Johnson and husband Roy of Keosauqua, a son, James Downard and wife, Kathy of Union, Mo, five Grandchildren, Fourteen great grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter, a sister, Marguerite Archabald of Keosauqua, a brother, Robert Downard of Ankeny and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Verne, Orlen, Roy, John and Dale Downard and three sisters, Ruth Vickerman, Frances Danneil and Roberta Lerche.

Funeral services were held Wednesday March 4, 2009 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, Rev. Elsa Lawry officiated. Burial was in Miller Chapel Cemetery northeast of Keosauqua.

Memorials to Keosauqua Senior Center or Van Buren County Historical Society may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 906 7th St., Keosauqua, Ia 52565.
