KEOSAUQUA -- Emmit E. "Chief" Ewing, 84, of Keosauqua died at 6:55 p.m. Jan. 5, 1993, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
He was born Oct. 12, 1908, near Mount Zion to William J. and Nancy Rupe Ewing. He married Esther Thomas on March 7, 1933, in Lancaster, Mo.
He had worked in the maintenance of way department of the Rock Island Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1972, and was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees. He had lived in Douds and Bonaparte and entered Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua in July 1991.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Edna Lewman of Keosauqua; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson.
The service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, the Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. Burial will be in Bonaparte Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today at the funeral home. Family visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Van Buren Good Samaritan Center.
