Harvey Loring McLeland, son of William E. and Belle Teter McLeland, was born on a farm southeast of Cantril on July 13, 1873, and passed away at his home four miles southwest of Milton on Monday, September 5, 1938.

He was married to Ida Lydia Starr at Keosauqua on December 20, 1899. To this union were born nine children, two of whom died in infancy. Surviving with the wife are the following children: William Leith of Clarence, Iowa; C. Craig, of Memphis, Missouri; Blanche Younker, of Memphis, Tennessee; Ve Irene Ornduff, of Milton; Robert H. of Cantril; Edna Robinson, of Memphis; James L., at home. Also ten grandchildren, three brothers and one sister of the deceased also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday, September 7, at the Cantril Methodist Episcopal church, conducted by the Rev. A. M Hadley, of Milton, and the Rev. David Eastburn of Cantril. Mrs. E. J. Hootman and Mrs. David Eastburn sang, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. George Cretcher. Pallbearers were Louie Zihlman, Earl Carpenter, John Kirkhart, Lester Wells, Tom Burns, and Walter Winn. Interment was in the Cantril Cemetery.
