Mary Jane Lazenby, daughter of Charles and Lurana Lazenby, was born near Hillsboro, Ia., June 15, 1856, and departed from this life, June 19, 1934.
Her childhood and early life was spent near the place of her birth. She united with the Baptist Church at Hillsboro, later transfered her membership to the Church of Christ at Stockport, Ia.,where she was a faithful, active member until failing health compelled her to be confined to her home.
On January 25, 1877, she was united in marriage to Henry Clay Philips, moving to what is now known as the Hugh Carmichael farm where they lived until October 11, 1893, when they moved to the Newman farm northwest of Stockport. In the spring of 1917 they came to their present home in Stockport.
To this union were born four children, Charles C. of Des Moines Ia., Orlando P. of Denver Colo., Amy I. of Stockport, and Warren J., who died January 3, 1919, at Reading, Mass.
Besides her husband and three children she leaves 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One brother, John F. Lazenby, of Hillsboro, two sisters, Mrs Eva Moore, of Helena Montana and Mrs. E Searby, of Crookston, Neb.
