Long Time Stockport Buisnessman Dies.

Lester Eugene (Shorty) Workman, 71, longtime resident of the Stockport community died at 6:25 P.M, April 6, 1979, at his home in Stockport, Iowa. He had been ill for the last year.

He was born September 1, 1907, at Ware, Iowa, the son of Eugene Girard Workman and Ada Anna Newman Workman. His father was a depot agent and they lived in part of the train depot. Shorty and his brother, Ike, were both born in the train depot. This explains why they both had a lifetime love for trains. After living in Leighton,Libertyville, and Keosauqua,Iowa, they moved to Stockport in 1917.

He was married September 19, 1928, to Mary Louise Hosette at Stockport. They owned and operated the Stockport Restaurant, Meat Market, Stockport Oil Company and Workman LP Gas Service with Shorty's brother, Ike and his wife Maynie.

Shorty had been retired since 1962. He is survived by his wife and two children, Shirley Ann Workman Atwood and her husband Harold and Chuck Workman and his wife Sharyn, all of Fairfield, Iowa, 5 grandchildren; Debbi, Mike and Scott Atwood and Todd and Tiffany Workman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ike, in 1968. He was a member of the Stockport United Methodist Church and the Stockport Lions Club.

Services will be Monday, April 9,1979, at 2 PM at the Methodist Church in Stockport with the Rev. David R. Kennedy officiating. Interment will be in Spencer Cemetery, Northeast of Stockport.

The family will receive friends at the Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, Iowa from 7 to 8 PM on Sunday April 8.
